Chris Carter

As Managing Partner, Chris oversees NGP’s efforts in sourcing, structuring, executing and monitoring investments. He chairs the Investment, Investment Process and Monitoring Committees and is a member of NGP’s Executive Committee. Chris joined NGP in 2004.
Previously, Chris was a summer Associate at McKinsey & Company and an Analyst with Deutsche Bank’s Energy Investment Banking Group, where he focused on financing and merger and acquisition transactions.
Chris received a B.B.A. and an M.P.A. in Accounting from the University of Texas at Austin in 2002, where he was a member of the Canfield Business Honors Program. He also received an M.B.A from Stanford University Graduate School of Business in 2008, graduating as an Arjay Miller Scholar.

David serves as a Partner, where he concentrates on NGP’s energy transition sourcing and execution, as well as assisting active portfolio companies. He joined NGP in 2021.
Prior to NGP, David was a Principal with CPP Investments, where he was responsible for developing and executing a late-stage venture and growth equity investment strategy in energy transition. Prior to joining CPP Investments, David was the Vice President of Corporate Development and Finance for ChargePoint, a global leader in electric vehicle charging.
Before his tenure at ChargePoint, David established Efficient Resource Management, a Bay Area boutique advisory firm serving leading energy investors, developers and technology companies. David began his career as an energy analyst at the Carbon War Room and the Prometheus Institute for Sustainable Development, where he covered renewables, mobility and efficiency markets. He is an active mentor to energy entrepreneurs and is involved in community organizations, serving as a board member of Economists for Peace and Security (EPS), a UN-registered NGO.
David is a graduate of Reed College with a degree in Economics, where he was a Ducey Fellow.

Phil is Fund Head and Partner of NGP and Chief Executive Officer of NGP ETP III. He founded NGP Energy Technology Partners (ETP) in 2005, managed NGP ETP I and NGP ETP II and has been investing in the energy technology sector since 1997. Phil is a member of NGP’s Executive Committee.
From 2015 to 2018, Phil was Partner, COO and President of Social Capital, a $1.8 billion Silicon Valley-based investment firm, where he helped launch SC Public Equity Partners and Social Capital Hedosophia Holdings Corp. From 1997 to 2004, he was Managing Director at Perseus, where he led or co-led the firm’s energy investing activities and was a member of the firm’s Executive Committee. From 1986 to 1988, he was a financial analyst in the Mergers & Acquisition Department of Morgan Stanley & Company.
Phil is a board member of Anew, Form Energy, Voltus, Community Energy and TPI Composites. He is also a former board member of American Wind Capital, Beacon Power, Evergreen Solar, Renewable Energy Group and SatCon Technologies. Additionally, Phil is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Menlo School. He previously served on the MIT Future of Solar and Future of Storage Studies and on the boards of the Folger Shakespeare Library, the International Center for Women, the Washington Performing Arts Society and Capital for Children.
Phil received a J.D. with distinction from Stanford Law School in 1991 and a B.A. in Economics from Amherst College in 1986, where he was elected a member of Phi Beta Kappa scholastic honor society.

Craig joined NGP in 2006 and serves as Partner of the NGP funds. He brings over 37 years of legal and financial experience to the firm’s structuring and execution activities. Craig plays an active role in the full range of NGP’s investment process and sits on the firm’s Executive Committee.
Previously, Craig served as Managing Director and General Counsel for NGP Midstream & Resources from 2006 to 2008. He was a founding partner of Kosmos Energy Holdings and served as Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary from 2003 to 2006. His previous tenures also include Hunt Resources and Hunt Oil Company (1999 to 2003), Gulf Canada Resources, Limited (1994 to 1999) and Torch Energy Advisors (1994). Craig was a Partner in the law firm of Vinson & Elkins from 1985 to 1994 and has been a director of six publicly-traded companies: HighPoint Resources, Vantage Energy, Northern Blizzard Resources, Inc., Parallel Energy Trust, Westside Energy, Inc. and Gulf Indonesia Resources.
Craig received a B.A. in Political Science, cum laude, from Tulane University in 1982 and a J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law in 1985, where he was a member of the Texas Law Review.

David Hayes

David serves as a Partner of the NGP funds and concentrates on transaction sourcing and execution, along with monitoring active portfolio companies. He also specializes in transaction support for NGP portfolio companies, assisting them in accessing capital markets when external financing is required. David joined the firm in 1998.
He started his career as an analyst with Merrill Lynch’s Energy Investment Banking group in Houston, focusing on merger and acquisition transactions in the exploration and production and pipeline industries.
During business school, David was an Associate with Charlesbank Capital Partners, where he focused on evaluating private equity investment opportunities in all industries, as well as analyzing trends in the leveraged buyout sector.
David received a B.A. in Economics, magna cum laude, from Rice University in 1996, where he was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa scholastic honor society, and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School in 2002.

Jill Lampert

Jill serves as Chief Financial and Administrative Officer of NGP and oversees the firm’s financial reporting, tax, accounting and other administrative functions such as technology, marketing, human resources and support operations. She joined NGP in 2007.
Since taking her current position, NGP has significantly grown its capital commitments. To support this growth, Jill has built out the infrastructure to sustain the increased number of investors and entities, as well as the associated complexities and demands for enhanced reporting from both investors and regulators.
Jill is a current member of the firm’s Executive Committee and Investment Committee. After beginning at Arthur Andersen, she has served in other financial, accounting and operational roles throughout her career, including serving as Controller of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation from 2002 to 2006.
Jill is a Certified Public Accountant, and she earned her B.B.A. in Accounting from The University of Texas at Austin in 1988.

Maritza Liaw

Maritza serves as Partner for NGP, where she leads growth equity investments in the firm’s portfolio companies. Maritza has held leadership positions in both operating and investing companies—all pursuing environmental sustainability.
As an operator, she developed utility-scale wind energy projects and merchant transmissions in Montana and Alberta, Canada. She also served as CFO on an eco-friendly home construction company utilizing sustainably sourced materials and energy-efficiency technologies.
Maritza started her career with the Boston Consulting Group, and prior to joining NGP in 2021, she was a Partner with the Kleiner Perkins’ Green Growth Fund.
Maritza earned dual B.A. and B.S. degrees from Stanford University and earned an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School as a Baker Scholar.

Patrick serves as Partner of the NGP funds and concentrates on NGP’s transaction sourcing and execution, as well as the monitoring of active portfolio companies. He is a member of the NGP Investment and ESG committees, and he joined NGP in 2015.
Patrick has an extensive background in the energy sector, having spent 22 years primarily focused on energy financing alternatives for the upstream and midstream industries.
Prior to NGP, Patrick was a Managing Director with JPMorgan Securities, which he joined in 2012 to launch and build the Middle Market Oil and Gas Finance platform. In addition to directly covering oil and gas companies, Patrick and his team led the coverage of energy-focused private equity sponsors.
Patrick received a B.S. in Finance from Louisiana State University in 2000.

Brian Patterson

Brian serves as Partner of the NGP funds and oversees our Investor Relations activities while focusing on the firm’s capital raising activities. He brings nearly 20 years of financial and legal experience to the firm’s investment pursuits and sits on the firm’s Investment Committee, Monitoring Committee and Investment Process Committee. He joined NGP in 2016.
Prior to joining NGP, Brian was an Investment Manager with the University of Notre Dame Investment Office, where he oversaw Notre Dame’s global energy efforts, including sourcing, underwriting and investing in the upstream, services, midstream and power sectors. In 2014, Brian was recognized by Oil and Gas Investor Magazine as one of the Top 20 Under 40 in Energy Finance.
Before his work with University of Notre Dame, Brian was an Attorney with Goodwin Procter LLP and Verrill Dana LLP, where he specialized in private equity, complex merger and acquisition transactions and joint-venture transactions.
Brian graduated cum laude from the University of Notre Dame in May 1999. He received a J.D. from Boston College Law School in 2003 and is a CFA Charterholder.

Brian has over a decade of experience in the energy industry, and In his time with NGP, he has worked directly with over 20 upstream and midstream companies across the investment lifecycle—from first idea to ultimate exit.
Prior to NGP, Brian was an Investment Banking Analyst with Barclays Captial’s Natural Resources Group in Houston, where he focused on financing and merger and acquisition transactions in the oil and gas industry.
Brian received a B.B.A. in Finance and a B.A. in Economics in 2011 from The University of Texas at Austin, where he was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa scholastic honor society.

I’m excited by the engineers and operators of U.S. natural resources companies for two reasons. First, there is an enormous role that experienced U.S. companies can play in delivering abundant and low-cost domestic energy, produced with the highest standards of ethical and environmental stewardship. Second, I believe the deep technical skillsets of the natural resources industry can help decarbonize the energy system, leveraging their decades of experience that will be relevant skills in the energy system of the future.

Sam serves as a Partner and concentrates on NGP’s investment activity within the energy transition. He focuses his efforts in sourcing investments, transaction analysis and execution, as well as the monitoring of active portfolios. Sam is also a member of the NGP Investment Committee, Vice Chair of the NGP Monitoring and Investment Process Committees and the former Chair of the NGP ESG Committee. He joined NGP in 2011.
Sam has over a decade of experience sourcing, executing and monitoring investments in the energy sector and has helped to lead investments in numerous current and former NGP portfolio companies.
Prior to joining NGP, Sam was an Investment Banking Analyst with Madison Williams and Company’s Energy Investment Banking Group in Houston, where he focused on financing and merger and acquisition transactions in the oil and gas industry.
Sam received a B.B.A. and M.P.A. in Accounting, summa cum laude, from The University of Texas at Austin in 2010, where he was elected a member of Phi Gamma Delta. He received an M.B.A. from Stanford Graduate School of Business in 2016.

James Wallis

James joined NGP in 2017 and serves as Partner of the NGP funds and member of the NGP Investment Committee. He has invested extensively throughout the energy value chain and concentrates primarily on sourcing, executing and monitoring NGP’s energy transition related investment opportunities.
Previously, James was a Managing Director with Lime Rock Partners, which he joined in 2007. Prior to Lime Rock, he worked in the energy investing banking groups of Merrill Lynch and Petrie Parkman & Co.
James received a B.B.A. in Finance from The University of Texas at Austin, where he was a member of the Business Honors Program.

Jeff Zlotky

Jeff serves as Partner and General Counsel of the NGP funds, where he applies his broad experience in the energy and private equity industries to the structuring and execution of transactions on behalf of both NGP and its portfolio companies. He joined NGP in 2015.
Prior to joining NGP, Jeff spent his entire professional career with the global law firm of Thompson & Knight LLP, where he was a partner in their Corporate and Securities practice group, with an emphasis on energy finance and private equity. During his tenure, he served in a variety of management positions, including as the firm’s global Managing Partner from 2009 to 2012 and as a member of the board of directors of the Thompson & Knight Foundation.
Jeff has extensive experience in the structuring and organization of private equity funds on behalf of sponsors and investors, the investment activities of private equity funds and mergers and acquisitions. In his tenure with Thompson & Knight, he was an advisor to NGP and worked on a variety of significant matters, including the formation of several NGP investment funds, significant investment transactions and other key transactions involving NGP portfolio companies.
Jeff attended Princeton University, where he graduated magna cum laude, and The University of Texas School of Law, where he graduated with honors and served as an Associate Editor of the Texas Law Review.

A person with a crystal ball usually eats crushed glass. So while I may try to predict the future, I’m always focused on what happens when my prediction does not come to fruition.
Greg Lyons

Greg serves as Principal at NGP and concentrates on making growth equity investments in energy transition businesses. He focuses his efforts on sourcing, investment analysis and transaction execution, and he serves as a board member or board observer for a number of NGP’s energy transition portfolio companies.
Before joining NGP in 2014, Greg was an Investment Banking Analyst with Citi’s Global Energy Group in Houston, where he focused on financing and merger and acquisition transactions in the energy industry.

Laurel Peacock

Laurel serves as Head of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG), applying her years of sustainability knowledge and ESG experience to NGP and its portfolio companies. Her key focus is integrating ESG performance into strategy and core business operations within the energy industry and acts as Chair of the ESG Committee. She joined NGP in 2022.
Prior to NGP, Laurel served as Director of Sustainability at NRG Energy in Houston, where she set industry-leading, science-based carbon-reduction goals and focused on engaging management and the board to address key ESG issues. Prior to her work with NRG, she spent time as a strategy and management consultant at a sustainability consulting firm in California.
Laurel earned a B.A. from Claremont McKenna College and an M.B.A. with a sustainable business emphasis from San Francisco State University.

I was a lacrosse goalie in high school and college which taught me the importance of motivating and organizing those around you.

Christina serves as General Counsel of NGP’s energy transition investment strategy and as Assistant General Counsel of the firm. She joined NGP in 2018 and is focused on NGP’s fund formations and the structuring and execution of transactions on behalf of NGP and its portfolio companies. She is also a member of the NGP ESG Committee.
Prior to NGP, Christina was an Associate with the law firm of Thompson & Knight LLP for over five years. As a member of the firm’s Corporate and Securities practice group, she focused her practice on energy private equity work, including investments in portfolio companies, energy transactional work and private equity fund formations.
Christina received a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Southern California in 2008 and a J.D., summa cum laude, from Texas Tech University School of Law in 2012.

Tanner serves as Vice President for the firm and primarily concentrates on NGP’s investment activity within the energy transition. He focuses his efforts in sourcing investments, transaction analysis and execution, as well as the monitoring of active portfolios. He joined NGP in 2016.
Prior to NGP, Tanner was an Investment Banking Analyst with Barclays Capital’s Energy Group in Houston, where he focused on financing and merger and acquisition transactions in the energy industry.
Tanner received a B.A. in Mathematical Economic Analysis with a minor in Business from Rice University in 2013.

I played a critical role in helping the University of Houston’s Case Keenum throw for nine touchdown passes in a single game—one of the most remarkable individual passing performances in NCAA history. I was a member of the opposing team’s defense…On His Mind:

Kevin Sirchia

Kevin serves as Vice President, Investor Relations for the firm, focusing on NGP’s capital raising and investor relations activities and is a member of the firm’s co-investment team. Prior to joining the investor relations team, he assisted in the preparation and analysis of NGP’s valuation deliverables and financial reporting. He joined NGP in 2014.
Prior to NGP, Kevin was a Senior Associate in the Energy & Mining Valuation Advisory practice of Duff & Phelps, a diversified financial advisory firm. While at Duff & Phelps, he assisted Fortune 500, private equity and government clients with the preparation of energy-related company and asset valuations for financial and tax reporting, portfolio valuation, transaction opinions and dispute resolution.
Kevin received a B.B.A. in Finance, magna cum laude, from the Mays Business School at Texas A&M University in 2012.

Prior to joining NGP, Audrey was an Investment Banking Analyst at Morgan Stanley, where she focused on financing and merger and acquisition transactions in the energy industry.

Prior to NGP, Vegas was an Energy Investment Banking Associate with the Jefferies firm, focusing on financing and merger and acquisition transactions in the energy industry. In his free time, he enjoys seeing the world and keeping up with current events.
Vegas received a B.B.A. in Finance and a B.S. in Mathematics with a minor in Computer Science from Southern Methodist University in 2018.

Prior to NGP, Chester was an Investment Banking Analyst with Evercore Partners in Houston, focusing on financing and merger and acquisition transactions in the oil and gas industry.
Chester received a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering from The University of Tulsa in 2018.

Matt is a Venture Partner of the NGP funds, serving in a consulting role to NGP and its portfolio companies. He brings 15 years of leadership, operations and engineering experience and a passion for performance and ESG improvement to the firm. He joined NGP in 2021.
Matt serves as a member of the NGP ESG Committee, as the President and CEO of Greenlake Energy Ventures, and on the board of Pioneer Natural Resources Company. Prior to NGP, he worked at Parsley Energy for over a decade, joining in 2010 to build the Engineering Department. He was later promoted to Vice President and Chief Operating Officer in 2014, promoted again to President and COO in 2017, and finally promoted to President and CEO in 2019.
Matt earned a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines in 2005.

Ward is Venture Partner of the NGP funds and brings a wealth of over 35 years of leadership, engineering, commercial and investing experience in the energy industry. He joined NGP in 2022.
Ward is a co-CEO of Camino Natural Resources, LLC, an NGP portfolio oil and gas company started in 2017. Previously, he served as CEO of Centennial Resource Development, LLC, an NGP portfolio company focused on the Permian basin of West Texas, from 2013 to 2016.
Prior to forming Camino and Centennial, he served as a Managing Director and a founding partner in Investment Banking at Tudor, Pickering, Holt & Co., where he spearheaded the firm’s E&P asset acquisition and divestiture practice.
Ward earned a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines in 1984 and an M.B.A. from Rice University in 1986. He is also a CFA charterholder.

Brandon Hurlbut

Brandon is an Operating Partner of the NGP energy transition funds, and he brings over two decades of experience working in the policy, finance, technology, advocacy, law, politics and media areas of climate change. He joined the firm in 2020.
Brandon previously served in the Obama Administration as U.S. Department of Energy Chief of Staff and in the White House as the President’s liaison to the energy and environment cabinet agencies. At the DOE, Brandon oversaw day-to-day operations of a federal agency with a $29 billion budget and a 115,000 person workforce. He served on the investment committee for its $38 billion clean energy fund.
After public service, he co-founded Boundary Stone Partners, a climate government affairs firm, and Overture, a climate seed fund.
Brandon currently serves on the board of directors to the following organizations: Sparkfund, an energy infrastructure finance platform; Swell Energy, a residential battery storage developer; Orka, a solar finance company; the Sunrise Movement, a youth climate advocacy organization; Clean Energy for America, an organization supporting candidates who champion climate change; and Solutions Project, an environmental justice organization.
Brandon earned a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in 2004 and a B.A. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1997.
